The first Cartier Pasha, as we know it today, was introduced in 1985.
However, there is a background of fundamental importance to understanding the name and essence of the Pasha.
In 1932, Louis Cartier received a request from El Glaoui, Sultan of Marrakech and a well-known figure in the international jet-set for his taste.
The Sultan, known as Pasha, wished to own a watch that was both suitable for royal engagements and sporting activities, without having to worry about water-resistance.
Louis Cartier, who already counted many royals among his clients, accepted the sovereign’s request and built a timepiece to his specifications, first and foremost the water-resistant case.
The Pasha, in fact, was Cartier’s first waterproof watch and one of the first in history, since only six years earlier, Rolex had introduced the very first Oyster case.
